Case study

A removals site that answers the only question the customer has

Every man-and-van enquiry begins with one question — what will this cost — and every site that refuses to answer it loses to the one that does.

The problem

Man-and-van is a price-first market with a very short decision window. A customer moving a flat next weekend contacts two or three operators, and books whichever one gives them a number they can act on.

The competitive bar is genuinely low: many operators in this trade have a phone number, a gallery and nothing else. That makes the work winnable — but only if the site does the one thing the others do not.

What I built

A quote flow that asks for collection and delivery postcodes, date, and property size in an order a customer can answer without preparation, and returns an estimate rather than a promise to call back.

Van-size guidance expressed as real capacity examples — what fits in each vehicle — so customers self-select accurately and the operator stops arriving with the wrong van.

Mobile-first throughout, with click-to-call given equal weight to the form. A large share of this traffic is someone standing in a flat with a phone in their hand.

Decisions worth explaining

The estimate is presented as a range with the factors that move it, rather than a single figure. A precise number that later changes destroys trust; an honest range with the reasons attached survives the follow-up conversation.

Service coverage is stated plainly rather than expanded into a page per borough. Generating a page for every area regardless of whether the operator works there is a doorway pattern, and it is a penalty risk rather than a growth lever.
