Cookie policy

Most cookie policies are long because the site has a lot to disclose. This one is short for the opposite reason.

That is a deliberate build decision rather than an accident, and it is worth explaining, because "we only use essential cookies" is one of the most commonly untrue sentences on the web.

1. What a cookie is

A small file a website asks your browser to store, which is sent back on later requests. Cookies are how a site remembers a login, a basket, or that you dismissed a banner — and also how advertising networks follow you between sites.

2. What this site sets

Nothing. No first-party cookies, no third-party cookies, no advertising or analytics identifiers, no pixels, no fingerprinting.

3. How to verify that yourself

1. Open your browser’s developer tools — F12 on most desktop browsers.
2. Go to the Application tab (Chrome or Edge) or Storage tab (Firefox).
3. Look under Cookies for this domain.
4. It is empty. Check the Network tab too: every request goes to this domain and nowhere else.

4. Local storage

One value is stored in your browser’s local storage, and only if you choose it: whether you have turned on "Reduce motion" using the control in the footer. It stores the word "off" and nothing else.

It is not a cookie, is never sent to the server, contains no identifier, and can be cleared with your browsing data at any time. It exists so the setting survives between pages, which is the accessibility requirement it was built for.

5. Third-party requests

None. Fonts are self-hosted, there is no analytics script, no tag manager, no embedded video, no social widget, no chat bubble loading from someone else’s server, and no advertising code.

The practical consequence: no third party learns you visited this site, because no third party is contacted when you do.

6. Why there is no cookie banner

Consent banners exist because a site is doing something that requires consent. Under the UK PECR and the EU ePrivacy rules, storing or accessing information on a device requires consent unless it is strictly necessary for a service you requested.

This site stores nothing, so there is nothing to consent to, and adding a banner would be theatre. If you have ever wondered whether a banner is genuinely necessary, this site is a working demonstration that it often is not.

7. What would change if analytics were added

The site is built so that privacy-respecting analytics can be enabled with a single configuration value, and the intended choice is a cookieless product that counts visits without storing anything on your device or identifying you.

If that is ever switched on, this page will say so, with the provider named and the date. Google Analytics is deliberately not the choice, because it would forfeit both the zero-cookie position and the no-third-party-request position in exchange for reports nobody here needs.

8. The enquiry form

Submitting the form sends what you typed to my own server so I can reply. No cookie is set by that process, and the data handling is described in the privacy policy.

9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Both are honoured by default, in the strongest possible sense: there is no tracking to disable. Sending either signal changes nothing here, because nothing was happening to begin with.

10. Managing cookies generally

Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies in its settings. Nothing on this site depends on cookies, so blocking them entirely will not break any page here — which is not true of most sites you visit.

11. Changes to this policy

Last updated 2026-08-19. If the position ever changes, this page changes with it, on the day it changes rather than afterwards.
