AI search and working with a developer
What is Voice search?
Voice search is a query spoken to an assistant, which reads back a single answer rather than showing ten links. Optimising for it is mostly answer-engine optimisation plus accurate local business data — very few tactics are genuinely voice-specific.
Also called: voice assistant search
Where the spoken answer comes from
A featured snippet or equivalent extracted passage, a knowledge graph entry, or a local business record. Winning any of those wins the voice answer as a side effect, which is why almost every real voice tactic is a rebadged one.
What genuinely helps
- Question-shaped headings matching spoken phrasing
- A short, complete answer readable aloud in one breath
- Plain sentence structure — assistants read nested clauses badly
- Accurate, identical business details everywhere they appear
- Fast pages, because assistants abandon slow sources
The myth worth dropping
"Voice is half of all searches" is a 2016 projection that never materialised and gets re-quoted annually with no source. Voice is real and it is a minority of queries; treating it as a separate content strategy wastes effort.
