What is Author entity?
An author entity is a recognisable, verifiable person credited with content — with a biography, traceable profiles and structured data connecting them to what they wrote. It is how a machine distinguishes an expert from an anonymous byline.
Also called: author authority · author markup
What makes an author verifiable
- A real name, used consistently everywhere
- A biography page with genuine detail rather than three adjectives
- sameAs links to profiles the person actually controls
- Author markup on articles pointing back to that page by @id
- Evidence of the experience claimed — work, results, contributions
Why it matters more now
As the volume of generated content rises, provenance becomes the differentiator. A page written by a named person who demonstrably does the thing is easier to trust than an identical page with no author at all.
The mistake
Inventing an author persona with a stock photograph. It is detectable, it destroys trust when discovered, and it converts a strength into a liability at the exact moment someone is evaluating you.
