How do I get my website indexed by Google?
Verify the site in Search Console, submit an XML sitemap, make sure nothing blocks crawling, and ensure every page is linked internally from somewhere. Indexing is a quality decision as well as a discovery one — Google fetches far more than it keeps.
The steps that matter
- Verify in Search Console, preferably by DNS record so it survives supplier changes
- Submit a sitemap containing only canonical, indexable, 200-returning URLs
- Confirm robots.txt does not block anything you want indexed
- Check the content exists in the HTML without JavaScript execution
- Link every page from somewhere — an orphan reads as unimportant
- Use URL Inspection → Request Indexing for individual priority pages
What will not work
Resubmitting the sitemap repeatedly. "Discovered — currently not indexed" means the URL was found and judged not worth the crawl, which is a quality and linking signal. Resubmitting a file that already mentions it changes nothing.
The faster route for other engines
IndexNow notifies Bing, Yandex, Seznam and Naver immediately, which matters because Bing feeds Microsoft Copilot. Google does not participate.
