E-commerce
Do I need a payment gateway, and which one?
You need one to take card payments online. Choose on three practical constraints before comparing features: does it support your country as a merchant, does it accept your business category, and how long until payout.
What to check before comparing features
- Merchant country support — this eliminates options faster than anything else
- Accepted business categories, confirmed in writing before you build
- Fees including currency conversion and chargeback handling
- Payout timing, which affects cash flow more than the percentage does
- Payment methods your market actually uses
The risk nobody scopes
An account frozen or closed after onboarding because the business turned out to be in a restricted category. Confirm acceptance before building the integration, not after.
Ownership, which is not negotiable
The account must be in your business name with your bank details. A developer or agency holding your payment account is not a technical arrangement — it is a commercial hostage situation waiting to happen.
The longer version
This answer is deliberately short. If you want the full treatment, Stripe checkout integration, and the four failure modes nobody tests for covers it in about 3 minutes — free, ungated, written from client work.
