Do I need a website maintenance plan?
You need maintenance; whether you buy it is a separate question. Software updates, backups, monitoring and security patching have to happen on any site with a CMS or a database. A static site needs far less, and the honest answer depends on which you have.
What maintenance actually covers
- Core, plugin and dependency updates — the largest ongoing risk on WordPress
- Automated backups, with a restore tested rather than assumed
- Uptime monitoring, so you learn from a system rather than a customer
- Security patching and header configuration
- Small content or code changes
When you can genuinely skip it
A static site with no CMS, no database and no plugins has almost no attack surface and nothing to update. That is one reason to choose static where the site does not need to be edited by anyone.
What to look for in a plan
No minimum term, no lock-in, and confirmation that everything produced under it keeps working if you stop. A retainer that holds your site hostage is not maintenance.
