Web developer in Dunedin
Websites, online stores and technical SEO for Dunedin businesses — built remotely from Islamabad, quoted in NZD, scoped in writing before anything starts.
If you are searching for a web developer in Dunedin, you are probably at one of two points: an existing site that stopped producing enquiries, or no site and a business that has outgrown a social media page. Those are different jobs with different prices, and conflating them is how people end up paying for a rebuild when a fix would have done.
What working with a New Zealand client actually changes
These are the terms that differ by country rather than by town. They apply to every business in New Zealand, Dunedin included, and they are the substance of what this page is claiming.
| Quoted and invoiced in | NZD — never a converted figure presented at the end |
|---|---|
| Tax position | GST at 15% on your sales; imported services from me are zero-rated |
| Your customers' data sits under | the Privacy Act 2020 |
| Lawful transfer mechanism | IPP 12 requires comparable safeguards abroad, which the DPA provides in writing |
| Checkout can realistically use | Stripe, POLi, and Windcave where a local gateway is already in place |
| My day, in Dunedin time | 17:00–02:00 — which barely touches your working day, so a shifted window is agreed in writing instead |
One thing worth knowing about building for New Zealand
New Zealand businesses are usually competing against Australian sites in the same search results, which means the build has to signal local trust hard — NZBN, local address, NZD pricing above the fold — or it loses the click before the page is read.
What happens in the first 48 hours of a Dunedin build
Nothing is designed on day one. The first two days are spent on the things that decide whether the build succeeds: what the site is for, which single action matters most, who the visitor actually is, and what content genuinely exists versus what is assumed to exist. That last one is where most timelines quietly break.
By the end of it you have a written scope, a sitemap, a price in NZD and a date. If any of those four look wrong to you, that is the cheapest possible moment to say so — before a line of code exists. Projects that go badly almost always skipped this and started with a homepage mockup instead.
Healthcare and clinics in Dunedin
Clinics carry a compliance weight most businesses do not. Appointment forms collect health information, which is a special category under Privacy Act 2020, and it cannot be emailed to a generic inbox or written to a plain-text log. That constraint has to shape the build rather than be bolted onto it afterwards.
Beyond compliance the deciding factor is reassurance: practitioner names, registrations a patient can verify, honest pricing, and what actually happens at a first appointment. Anxiety is why people delay booking, and a site that reduces it outperforms one that merely looks modern.
The contact form that silently fails
The most expensive bug on a small business website makes no noise at all. A form posts, shows a thank-you message, and the email never arrives — usually because the host's mail function is unauthenticated and the receiving server drops it without a bounce. The business concludes demand fell.
The fix is authenticated SMTP with SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured on the sending domain, plus a database write so a submission survives even when delivery fails. If you are unsure whether your Dunedin site has this problem, submit your own form from a phone on mobile data and see what actually arrives.
Hiring a developer who is not in Dunedin
The honest version is that for a build specified in writing, developed on a staging URL you can open from your phone at any hour, and handed over with documentation, being in the same city changes very little about the finished site. What it changes is your recourse if things go wrong — and that is a fair thing to weigh, which is why the contract, the staging access and the escrow-style milestone structure all exist before you pay anything.

What I am not claiming about Dunedin
A location page is the easiest place on a website to imply something untrue, so here is the other side of it plainly:
- I have no office, postal address or phone number in Dunedin
- I cannot meet you in person, and if that is a requirement you should hire locally
- I am not claiming existing clients in Dunedin specifically — my live work is listed on the work page and you can check it
- Nothing on this page is a guarantee of search rankings, which no developer can honestly offer
Dunedin web development — common questions
- Can you migrate my Dunedin site without losing rankings?
- Yes, and the redirect map is the whole job. Every existing URL is mapped to its new equivalent with a 301 before launch, and anything with no equivalent goes to the closest relevant page rather than the homepage. Sites lose rankings in migration because that mapping was skipped, not because migration is inherently risky.
- Do you build on WordPress or something custom?
- Whichever the project justifies. WordPress when you need to edit content constantly and want a familiar admin. A static build when speed and security matter more than a plugin ecosystem. Custom PHP and MySQL when the logic is genuinely yours. The choice is explained in the quote with its trade-offs, not presented as a foregone conclusion.
- Do you actually work with businesses in Dunedin?
- Yes, remotely. I work with New Zealand clients from Islamabad, quoting in NZD and invoicing in NZD. I have no office, address or phone number in Dunedin and will not pretend otherwise. If your project needs someone physically present, hire locally — I will say so in the first reply rather than after a deposit.
- Do I need to provide the content and images?
- Content, yes — you know your business and I do not. I will restructure and edit what you send so it reads for the web, and I will tell you where a section is missing. Photography is worth paying a local photographer for; stock images of people in offices are recognisable as stock and quietly cost you credibility.
- Do you provide ongoing maintenance after launch?
- Thirty days of snag fixes are included after launch at no extra cost — anything that does not work as specified gets fixed. Beyond that there are monthly plans for updates, backups, monitoring and small changes. They are optional and cancellable; a site handed over properly does not require a retainer to keep running.
- Can you fix my existing site rather than rebuild it?
- Often, yes, and it is usually the cheaper answer. Speed problems, a broken mobile layout, a form that silently fails or missing structured data are all fixable on the site you already have. I will tell you which of the two you need after looking, and a rebuild only gets recommended when the fix would cost more than starting again.
- What happens if I am not happy with the result?
- Work is delivered in milestones against a written scope, and you review each one on a staging URL before it is paid for. If the delivered milestone does not match the scope, it gets corrected before anything moves forward. That structure exists so disagreement is resolved at the stage it happens rather than at the end when it is expensive.
