Web developer in Darwin
Websites, online stores and technical SEO for Darwin businesses — built remotely from Islamabad, quoted in AUD, scoped in writing before anything starts.
There is a version of this conversation where you are sold a brand refresh, a content strategy and a six-week discovery phase. For most Darwin businesses that is not the constraint. The constraint is that the site is slow, the phone number is hard to find and nobody has looked at the analytics in a year. Fixing those three is cheaper and works faster.
What working with a Australian client actually changes
These are the terms that differ by country rather than by town. They apply to every business in Australia, Darwin included, and they are the substance of what this page is claiming.
| Quoted and invoiced in | AUD — never a converted figure presented at the end |
|---|---|
| Tax position | GST at 10% on your sales; my invoices are GST-free imported services |
| Your customers' data sits under | the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles |
| Lawful transfer mechanism | APP 8 makes you accountable for an overseas recipient, so the DPA names Pakistan explicitly rather than burying it |
| Checkout can realistically use | Stripe, POLi and BPAY for deposits, and Afterpay where the basket supports it |
| My day, in Darwin time | 15:00–00:00 — about 3 hours inside a normal working day |
One thing worth knowing about building for Australia
The timezone is the honest problem here and I will not talk around it: my working day lands in your afternoon and evening. Australian projects run on written asynchronous updates with one scheduled call a week, which works — but only because it is agreed up front.
Accessibility on a Darwin build, and why it is not optional
Keyboard navigation, real contrast ratios, form labels that are actually associated with their inputs, and alt text that describes rather than repeats. None of it is expensive when built in from the start and all of it is expensive to retrofit, which is the entire argument for doing it in the first pass.
The commercial case is simpler than the legal one: a site that a screen reader can navigate is a site that a search engine can parse, because both are reading the same semantic structure. Accessibility work and technical SEO overlap far more than either discipline usually admits, and in Darwin the same build serves both.
Hospitality and venues in Darwin
Restaurants, cafés, hotels and venues are judged on four things a visitor looks for immediately: today's opening hours, the menu or rate as a readable page, real photographs of the actual room, and how to book. Everything else on a hospitality site is decoration arranged around those four.
The PDF menu deserves its own warning. It is invisible to search engines, unreadable on a phone without pinch-zoom, and it is the most common reason a Darwin venue never appears for searches naming the dishes it serves. Menus belong in HTML.
The contact form that silently fails
The most expensive bug on a small business website makes no noise at all. A form posts, shows a thank-you message, and the email never arrives — usually because the host's mail function is unauthenticated and the receiving server drops it without a bounce. The business concludes demand fell.
The fix is authenticated SMTP with SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured on the sending domain, plus a database write so a submission survives even when delivery fails. If you are unsure whether your Darwin site has this problem, submit your own form from a phone on mobile data and see what actually arrives.
Hiring a developer who is not in Darwin
A Australian business hiring outside Australia is usually doing it for price, and price is the least interesting reason. The more durable one is availability: a one-person supplier answers you directly rather than through an account manager who has to check. That is an advantage on a small project and a genuine liability on a large one, which is why I turn down projects that need a team.

Priced for Darwin specifically
What I am not claiming about Darwin
A location page is the easiest place on a website to imply something untrue, so here is the other side of it plainly:
- I have no office, postal address or phone number in Darwin
- I cannot meet you in person, and if that is a requirement you should hire locally
- I am not claiming existing clients in Darwin specifically — my live work is listed on the work page and you can check it
- Nothing on this page is a guarantee of search rankings, which no developer can honestly offer
Darwin web development — common questions
- How do you handle our customers' data under Privacy Act 1988?
- Your customer data is governed by the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, and sending it to a developer in Pakistan is a restricted transfer. That is resolved by APP 8 makes you accountable for an overseas recipient, so the DPA names Pakistan explicitly rather than burying it, published on this site and pre-signed before you send an enquiry — not drafted after you ask about it.
- Who owns the website when it is finished?
- You do, completely. The domain is registered in your name, hosting sits in your account, the code lives in a repository you control, and any payment provider account is opened in your business name. Credentials are handed to you as they are created rather than at the end, so you are never locked out of your own site.
- What currency will I be invoiced in?
- AUD. Quotes, milestones and the final invoice are all written in AUD so you are never comparing a converted figure against a local supplier's. Regarding tax: GST at 10% on your sales; my invoices are GST-free imported services.
- How much does a website cost in Darwin?
- A business website starts from A$120 and goes live in about three days. An e-commerce build starts from A$230 in around seven days, and a custom application from A$300 in ten. Those are starting figures — the exact number is fixed in writing once scope is agreed, and it does not move after that.
- Can you fix my existing site rather than rebuild it?
- Often, yes, and it is usually the cheaper answer. Speed problems, a broken mobile layout, a form that silently fails or missing structured data are all fixable on the site you already have. I will tell you which of the two you need after looking, and a rebuild only gets recommended when the fix would cost more than starting again.
- What hours will you be available to us in Darwin?
- My standard day lands at 15:00–00:00 your time — about 3 hours of genuine overlap with a normal Darwin working day. That is enough for one reliable daily window rather than constant back-and-forth, so Darwin projects run on written updates plus one scheduled call a week.
- How long does a Darwin project actually take?
- Three days for a business site, seven for a store, ten for a custom application. That holds because the process is fixed rather than improvised and because your content exists on day one. What stretches a build is almost never the code — it is waiting for copy, logos and photographs, so those are requested before the clock starts.
