AI search and working with a developer
What is Bing Webmaster Tools?
Bing Webmaster Tools is Bing’s equivalent of Search Console, and it matters more than its market share suggests because Bing’s index feeds Microsoft Copilot. Setting it up takes ten minutes and it can import your Search Console configuration.
Also called: Bing Search Console
Why it is worth the ten minutes
- Bing’s index is what Copilot draws on, which is an AI visibility channel
- It offers keyword and backlink data free that other tools charge for
- Its crawl diagnostics sometimes surface issues Search Console does not
- IndexNow submission is handled natively
The fast route
Import from Google Search Console. It copies the property and the sitemap configuration in one step, which removes most of the reason people never get round to it.
Realistic expectations
Traffic from Bing will be a small fraction of Google for most sites — typically low single-digit percentages of organic sessions, and sometimes less. The reason to do it is the Copilot channel and the free data, not the direct search volume.
One exception worth knowing: Bing skews toward desktop, older demographics and corporate networks where it is the enforced default. For a business selling to procurement-led buyers inside larger organisations, that audience is disproportionately valuable relative to its share of the traffic.
